The city's most prominent landmark is about to get a new owner.
Prudential Insurance Co. of America has signed a contract to sell the Empire State Building and the land under it to an undisclosed buyer, according to the managing partner of the 2,500-member investment group that holds a long-term lease on the property.
Prudential expects to complete the deal Nov. 15, the partner, Peter L. Malkin, said.
